I have an educational background in Language Arts.
I hold a B.A in English with a minor in Journalism. I have been a professional freelance writer for the last six years, and have been featured in several publications covering topics such as parenting, disability issues, health and community events. Please click here to see samples of my work.
I have loved to write ever since I was able to hold a pencil.
When I was small, I was painfully shy. I also had a severe speech impediment and I found that I could express myself far better through my writing than with spoken words.
Over the years I grew more confident in my voice, but my love for writing never went away.
One of the first things I learned about writing is to write what you know, so for the past several years, that is what I have been doing. As a parent of children with special needs, I have a unique perspective on a lot of issues that go along with the territory, as I grew up with special needs myself.
Through my writing, I aspire not only to advocate, but educate and raise awareness of the many issues that parents of special needs kids face on a daily basis.
Special needs parenting is a beautiful whirlwind of tough challenges, personal growth, and unconditional love, but it can also be quite isolating. If I can help one person to feel not so alone on this journey, then I have done my job well.
